Woman Killed in Jamul by Hit-and-run Driver Identified
JAMUL, CA (October 11, 2018) – A woman who died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Jamul has been identified.
On Wednesday, officials said the victim was Ashley Bevers, a 65-year-old resident of Jamul.
On Friday, October 5, Bevers had been walking across State Route 94 close to Maxfield Road when a vehicle—described as a Toyota Corolla, white in color—that had been traveling westbound hit her. The time was roughly 7:20 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
The person who had been driving the car initially stopped and exited the car. Then the driver re-entered the car and fled the scene, reports say. The driver continued to travel on SR 94 heading west until he was arrested by officers.
Responders took Bevers to Hillcrest’s Scripps Mercy Hospital. Later, she was pronounced deceased, the Medical Examiner’s Office said.
The driver—identified as Wissam Yousif, a 38-year-old resident of Santee—was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, Travis Garrow said. Garrow is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
