Teen Driver Smashes into Jail’s Gate Near Irvine; DUI Suspected
IRVINE, CA (July 30, 2019) – Early in the morning on Monday, a teen driver who is alleged to have been driving under the influence, crashed into a jail’s gate located near Irvine. The July 31 incident occurred at the James A. Musick jail—a minimum security facility—which is located in an area that is unincorporated close to Irvine.
The time was roughly 3:30 a.m., the Orange County Sheriff’s Department said.
Reports say the driver—identified only as a woman 19 years old—smashed into the jail’s gate at its entrance. According to reports a vehicle—described as an SUV—was involved in the incident.
Fencing was damaged in the crash, as well as the vehicle. According to reports, no employees of the facility were hurt when the crash occurred. It is not known from reports if the driver suffered any injuries.
The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Her identity, including name and city of residence, has not been reported.
No other details are known on what preceded the incident, nor where the vehicle had been headed before the crash occurred. Investigators are working on the gathering of information related to the crash to understand its circumstances.
