Transit Bus and Kia Optima Cause Major Injury Crash on State Route 178 in Kern County
INYOKERN, CA (April 7, 2025) – A serious two-vehicle collision involving a Kern County Transit bus and a white Kia Optima occurred Monday morning on State Route 178, just west of the 14 Freeway in Inyokern, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash took place around 7 a.m. on April 7 along Isabella Walker Pass Road (SR-178). CHP officials say one of the vehicles sideswiped the other on the two-lane highway.
Kia Optima Was Totaled In the Crash with a Kern County Transit Bus On Isabella Walker Pass Road (SR-178)
The Kia Optima was reportedly totaled in the collision and came to rest on the eastbound side of the roadway. The 28-foot transit bus remained stopped in the eastbound lanes following the crash.
Paramedics responded to the scene and transported at least one individual to a nearby hospital with major injuries. Additional details regarding the injured party or the total number of people involved have not yet been released.
CHP investigators are actively working to determine the cause of the crash and who was at fault.
