Hit-and-run Crash Kills Elderly Man in Huntington Beach; Suspect Arrested
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (April 18, 2022) – Late in the afternoon on Thursday in Huntington Beach, an elderly man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver. Authorities located and arrested the suspect in the April 14 crash, which occurred close to where Newland Street and Yorktown Avenue intersect.
The time was roughly a little before 5:00 p.m., Huntington Beach Police said.
According to authorities, the vehicle involved in the crash had been heading eastbound on Yorktown Avenue. The pedestrian–who authorities believe was not walking within a crosswalk or at the intersection–was struck and killed.
The driver did not stop to help the victim or remain at the crash site.
Responders transported the victim to the hospital. He died in the hospital.
He was described only as in his seventies. His name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
Police found the vehicle and the suspect driver on Friday. The suspect was identified as Blake Patraw, a resident of Huntington Beach, 23 years old.
Investigators are continuing their work on the crash.
