Early Tuesday morning, a motorcyclist was critically injured in a hit-and-run accident in Orange County.
Police said the accident occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. at Orangethroppe and Knott avenues in Buena Park.
According to witnesses, the motorcyclist was heading northbound on Knott Avenue when a black or dark grey Chevy Silverado with tinted windows ran a red light while traveling eastbound on Orangethroppe. Authorities have yet to identify the motorcyclist.
“The motorcyclist saw that the truck was not gonna stop, so he hit the brakes and the motorcycle went end-over-end and the motorcyclist flew off the bike,” said Sgt. Judith Williams.
Officials said the pickup’s rear tire ran over the man as he lay in the middle of the intersection. He was transported to UCI Medical Center in critical condition.
Witnesses said the driver of the Silverado fled the scene.
“It just kept going so me and some guy tried to chase after it and get a license plate, but we couldn’t,” said witness Steven Duran.
Anyone with information about the owner of the truck should contact Buena Park police at (714) 562-3902.
