VISTA, CA (August 8, 2018) – A bicyclist was injured by a hit-and-run driver in the late afternoon on August 6 in Vista. The accident occurred at University Drive and Lobelia Drive at roughly 5:40 p.m., Sgt. Frank Sandoval with the sheriff’s department said.
According to people who witnessed the accident, a 2010 Toyota sedan had been heading east on Lobelia Drive. The Toyota hit the bicyclist, and then fled the scene.
Responders took the bicyclist, who suffered injuries that were described as serious, to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
A person who witnessed the crash identified the hit-and-run driver and the vehicle, and indicated the location of the vehicle to deputies.
According to Sergeant Sandoval, officers arrested and booked the driver into Vista Detention Facility. The identity of the driver was not released.
Authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs were factors in the accident.
Investigators are continuing their examination of the details.
