Santa Maria, CA (September 5, 2023) – A harrowing accident on Highway 166 Monday afternoon left several individuals hospitalized, prompting an urgent response from emergency services. The distress call reporting a mass-casualty incident came in shortly before 1 p.m., setting into motion a coordinated effort involving multiple agencies.
Responding to the scene in the 7400 block of Highway 166 were teams from Cal Fire-San Luis Obispo, the California Highway Patrol, Santa Barbara County Fire Department, Santa Maria Fire Department, and the Los Padres National Forest. The collision involved three vehicles and unfolded in the vicinity of the Twitchell Reservoir and Alamo Creek Road.

This closure disrupted traffic flow but was deemed necessary to facilitate the emergency response. Fortunately, by 5 p.m., the roadway had been reopened to the public.
