Wheelchair-bound Man Struck and Killed on Bear Valley Road in Hesperia
HESPERIA, CA (November 14, 2018) – A car hit and killed a man on Sunday night who was in a wheelchair heading east on a road in Hesperia. The November 11 accident occurred in a lane of Bear Valley Road, a bit to the west of I Avenue.
The time was roughly 9:25 p.m.
According to reports, a vehicle—described as a Toyota Prius—had also been heading eastward on the road when it hit the man in the wheelchair.
Responders from the San Bernardino County Fire Department and Sheriff’s Department arrived on scene and found the victim on the road. He had suffered injuries that were described as major.
The person who had been driving the vehicle—identified as a man—and the passenger who had been riding in the vehicle—identified as a woman—remained at the accident scene.
The man in the wheelchair died at the site of the accident. His identity has not yet been reported.
The woman suffered injuries that were described as minor. The identities of the driver and of the passenger have also not yet been reported.
Officials with the sheriff’s department said that neither alcohol nor speed appeared to have played a role in the accident. The people in the car cooperated with the investigation.
