Collision Involving Golf Cart and Pickup Truck in Heritage Ranch Injures Five
HERITAGE RANCH, CA (February 18, 2020) – Late in the afternoon on Saturday, a collision involving a golf cart and a pickup truck in Heritage Ranch injured five people. The February 15 incident occurred on Heritage Boat Launch Road.
The time was roughly a little before 6:00 p.m.
Reports say a woman—identified as Breana Roinestad, a resident of Santa Maria 33 years old—had been driving a golf cart and heading east on Heritage Boat Launch Road. A man—identified only as a resident of Paso Robles, 29 years old—had been driving a Chevrolet pickup truck, and heading toward the golf cart, reports say.
According to reports, the pickup truck made a turn to the opposite side of the road and collided with the golf cart on the golf cart’s left side. The impact of the collision threw five children who had been riding in the golf cart onto the road.
Responders from Cal Fire SLO arrived and transported victims to the hospital. Reports say five children—aged 3 to 11 years—had been traveling in the golf cart’s bed, and were not restrained. Also traveling in the golf cart was a woman who was a passenger in the front seat. Their names have not been reported.
Two of the children were transported by airlift to Valley Children’s Hospital located in Madera County. Two children were transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. Two victims had injuries that were described as severe; one victim had injuries that were described as moderate; and two victims had injuries that were described as minor.
Authorities arrested Roinestad on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The pickup truck’s driver has not been identified by name in reports.
Investigators are continuing to gather details and information to understand the circumstances of the crash, and the factors that contributed to it.
