Hemet Two-vehicle, Attempted Hit-and-run Crash on Florida Ave. Kills Two
HEMET, CA (December 14, 2020) – Early in the morning on Saturday in Hemet, two people were killed and another person was injured in an attempted hit-and-run crash. Authorities suspect DUI was a factor in the December 12 crash, which occurred on Florida Avenue close to Kirby Street.
The time was roughly a little before 4:00 a.m., according to Hemet Police.
A vehicle, described as a Honda, is believed by investigators to have been stopped for a light that was red on Florida Avenue. Reports say investigators think another vehicle, described as a BMW, struck the rear-end of the Honda without the driver using the brakes.
The person driving the BMW is alleged to have attempted to run from the crash site. According to police, a person who witnessed the crash stopped the BMW’s driver from leaving.
Responders arrived and found two people inside the Honda had been killed. The victims were identified only as a woman, 21 years old who had been the driver. Her name and city of residence have not been reported.
A passenger in the Honda was also killed. The identity of the person has not been reported.
A second passenger in the Honda suffered injuries that were described as serious. The victim’s current condition is not known. The identity of the person has not been reported.
The driver of the BMW was arrested by authorities on suspicion of vehicular homicide, attempted hit-and-run, and driving under the influence.
He was identified as Jesus Rios, a resident of Downey, 33 years old. Reports say Rios was not hurt in the crash.
Investigators are continuing work on the incident.
