Man Killed Near Guadalupe after Crash on Highway 1
GUADALUPE, CA (July 24, 2019) – Warner Deutschman was killed late Tuesday afternoon close to Guadalupe after crashing his vehicle into farm tractors. The July 23 incident occurred on Highway 1 on the southbound side, close to Black Road and to the north of it.
The time was roughly a little before 6:00 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say Deutschman had been traveling on Highway 1 and heading southbound. For reasons that are not known, and at a speed that is not known, Deutschman’s vehicle—described as a minivan—went into the lane of opposing traffic. According to the California Highway Patrol, it drifted and then struck farm tractors that had been parked along the dirt shoulder near Black Road.
Responders arrived and transported Deutschman, and his wife who was traveling with him—identified as Shirly Ann Deutschman, 81 years old—to a hospital. Warner Deutschman died from the injuries he suffered. The injuries Shirley Deutschman suffered were moderate, as described in reports. The couple are from Orcutt.
Reports say the vehicles involved in the incident were damaged, with the damage described as major. Investigators are continuing to gather facts and details to understand why the crash happened.
