Multi-vehicle Crash on I-5 Near Gorman Kills Horse, Injures 30 People and Critically Injures Baby
GORMAN, CA (March 25, 2019) – A multi-vehicle collision on I-5 near Gorman on Saturday afternoon killed a horse, and injured more than thirty people, including critically injuring a baby. The March 23 accident occurred in the freeway’s southbound lanes, close to Frazier Mountain Park Road.
The time was roughly 2:45 p.m.
Caltrans officials said that 50 vehicles were involved in the collisions at two sites, and roughly 100 vehicles were caught in between. Reports say some vehicles rolled over, and one was on fire. A trailer for livestock had serious damage. One horse appeared to have been led out of the trailer uninjured after the crash. Much later, officials said another horse was killed in the collision.
Respondents transported the critically injured baby by airlift to a hospital. Respondents took four victims, who suffered injuries that were described as moderate, to a hospital, and another seven victims, whose injuries were described as minor. Other victims—22 in number—had been hurt, reports say, but they did not want to be taken to a hospital.

The types of vehicles that collided have not been described. According to reports, drivers said the fog had been thick and visibility was low when the accident occurred.
