Vehicle Crashes off Highway 101 in Goleta, Injuring Five People
GOLETA, CA (August 13, 2019) – A vehicle crashed off Highway 101 on Monday morning in Goleta, injuring five people. The August 12 incident occurred on the northbound side of the roadway, close to the Los Carneros Road exit.
The time was roughly 2:30 p.m.
Reports say the vehicle crashed off the highway, but it is not known what caused the vehicle to crash. The vehicle has not been described. After leaving the highway, the vehicle crashed through an area where trees are growing. It came to a stop along Calle Real where there is a chain-link fence, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department said.
Responders arrived and found seven people in the wrecked vehicle. Four of the victims are children, and three of the victims are adults.
The person who had been driving the vehicle was identified only as a woman. She suffered injuries that were described as moderate. Her current condition is not known. Her name, age, and city of residence have not been reported.
Another woman, and a man, were not hurt in the crash. Two of the children—identified as boys—were injured. One of the boys had injuries that were described as moderate. The other boy had injuries that were described as major. Their ages have not been reported. Their current condition is not known.
Another child—identified as a girl—suffered injuries that were described as minor. An infant—identified as two months of age—had also been an occupant of the vehicle. The gender of the baby has not been reported. It is not known if the infant was injured.
Responders transported the victims to a hospital for treatment. No other details are currently known.
Investigators are working to examine the information to understand what circumstances led to the crash.
