Lancaster Father Killed Crossing Avenue J in Hit-and-Run Accident; Driver Sought
LANCASTER, CA (April 7, 2025) — A 38-year-old father of two was killed in a pedestrian accident late Monday night in Lancaster, prompting an ongoing investigation by local authorities.
The victim, identified as Gilbert Amaro Jr., was struck and killed around 11:30 p.m. on April 7 at the intersection of Avenue J and Hanstead Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Detectives say Amaro was walking northbound across Avenue J, reportedly outside of a marked crosswalk, when he was hit by a westbound sedan. That driver fled the scene.
Moments later, a second vehicle, a Toyota Camry also traveling westbound, struck Amaro as he lay in the roadway. The driver of the Camry remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities.
Emergency crews with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the scene after a 911 call was made, but Amaro was pronounced dead on arrival.
Hit And Run Driver is Still Being Sought By LA Sheriff’s Deputies
Sheriff’s officials say they are still working to determine whether speed, alcohol, or drugs played a role in the collision. The hit-and-run driver has not yet been located.
Amaro leaves behind two young children, Damien and Zoee. His family has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover funeral expenses and provide support for his children.
