Tanker Truck Crashes on Highway 101 Near Gaviota, Causing Closure
GAVIOTA, CA (April 17, 2020) – On Thursday morning, a tanker truck crashed on Highway 101 near Gaviota, leading to closure of the highway. The April 16 incident occurred on the southbound side of the highway, in the area between El Capitan and Gaviota.
The time was roughly 4:45 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say a tanker truck, which had been hauling nitrogen, crashed through the guardrail in the center divider close to where the Arroyo Hondo Bridge is located.
It is not known from reports what led to the crash. Reports also do not say if the driver was hurt in the incident. The identity of the driver, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Investigators are working to understand the circumstances and factors that may have contributed to the incident. They are working to collect information and details.
