Shots Fired on 110 Freeway in Gardena Causes Multiple Crashes
GARDENA, CA (June 11, 2020) – Early in the morning on Wednesday, shots fired from one vehicle into another caused multiple crashes on the 110 Freeway in Gardena. The June 10 incident occurred near Redondo Beach Boulevard.
The time was roughly 3:50 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say two vehicles–described as an Infiniti SUV and a BMW–contained occupants who were involved in a drug deal that had gone bad, according to Simeon Yarbrough. Yarbrough is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
The Infiniti and the BMW entered the 110 Freeway, and were traveling side by side when someone fired shots into the BMW. The BMW smashed into the wall on the freeway’s shoulder.
According to Yarbrough, the Infiniti hit an Escalade that had not been involved in the prior incident. The crash caused the Escalade to erupt in flames.
Responders arrived and found that no one in the BMW had been struck by bullets. An occupant of the vehicle suffered injuries that have not been described. The identity of the person has not been reported.
Reports say a dog who had been inside the BMW in a kennel was not hurt.
The occupants of the Escalade were also not hurt. The identities of the people have not been reported.
Investigators are searching for the Infiniti and the people who had been inside it when the incidents occurred. If anyone has information, the person can contact the California Highway Patrol’s South Los Angeles area office.
