Vehicle Hits and Seriously Injures Boy Riding Scooter in Garden Grove
GARDEN GROVE, CA (May 2, 2019) – A boy was hit and seriously injured by a vehicle as he rode a scooter Wednesday night in Garden Grove. The May 1 accident occurred where Maureen Drive and Gilbert Street intersect, the Garden Grove Police Department said.
The time was roughly 7:30 p.m.
According to police, the boy had been traveling across Gilbert Street on the scooter, heading west, and a vehicle that was traveling south hit him. The child may have been distracted, officials said, which may have been a factor in the accident. According to Lino Santana, who is a sergeant with Garden Grove Police, the boy was wearing headphones.
Carl Whitney, who is a lieutenant with the Garden Grove Police, said the boy was approximately 13 years of age. The boy’s name, exact age, and city of residence are not known from reports.
The person who had been driving the vehicle stayed at the accident site and cooperated with investigators. The identity of the driver, including the person’s name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.
