Crash on I-5 Kills Four Family Members, Injures Three in Fresno, CA
FRESNO, CA (March 4, 2022) – On Wednesday morning in Fresno, a minivan that a family was traveling in crashed. Four of the family members were killed in the March 3 crash, which occurred on I-5.
The minivan had been traveling southbound on the freeway when, for reasons that are not known, it crashed into a semi truck that had been parked on the shoulder of the roadway.
Responders arrived and found most of the van’s right side had been torn away in the crash, and four people thrown from the vehicle, according to Rory Marks. Marks is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
Four people died in the crash. They were identified as Lute Katalina Fekitoa, 43 years old; Naomi Cook, 25 years old; a boy, 13 years old; and a girl, 9 years old.
The person who was driving the minivan was identified as Maikolo Fekitoa, 52 years old. He suffered injuries that were described as major.
Two other people–identified as Henry Cook, 37 years old; and a girl, 11 years old–also suffered injuries that were described as major.
All are residents of Washington.
Investigators are working to understand why the crash happened.
