Phia Vang, a Fresno Police Officer, is Killed on Highway 180 by Wrong-way Driver
FRESNO, CA (February 6, 2019) – Phia Vang, who was a Fresno police officer, was killed Monday night on Highway 180 near Fresno by a person driving the wrong way. The February 4 accident occurred close to McCall Avenue.
The time was roughly 5:00 p.m.
Reports say that Vang had been driving a pickup truck on the highway when another driver, who was heading east in the lanes that travel west, struck his vehicle. The vehicle that hit Vang was described as a Chevrolet pickup.
According to reports, the wrong-way driver had struck multiple other vehicles before colliding with Vang’s pickup truck. Vang died in the crash’s impact. He was 48 years old. Pat Farmer, who is the acting chief, said that Vang was on his way home from work when the crash happened. Reports say Vang had served on the police force for 26 years.
The Fresno County Coroner identified the wrong-way driver as Cameron Pryor, 33 years old and a resident of Fresno. Pryor also died in the crash’s impact.
Investigators are looking into whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in the collision. They are examining the details and information leading up to the crash.
No details have been reported on the other vehicles that were reported to have been hit by the wrong-way driver. The identities of the drivers of the other vehicles have not been reported, including their names, ages, gender, and cities of residence.
