Man Killed by Hit-and-run Driver in Fresno
FRESNO, CA (August 13, 2019) – Michael Sampedro was killed by a hit-and-run driver late Saturday night in the east-central area of Fresno. The August 10 incident occurred on Ashlan Avenue close to Cedar Avenue.
The time was just before midnight, according to the Fresno Police Department.
Reports say Sampedro had been riding a skateboard, heading eastbound on Ashlan Avenue. A vehicle—described as a PT Cruiser—hit him, and the driver left the accident site.
Responders arrived and pronounced Sampedro deceased at the scene of the incident. He was 31 years old, and a resident of Fresno. He was identified on Monday by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.
A person who witnessed the incident gave police the license plate number of the vehicle involved. Police found the vehicle at a house in the northwest area of Fresno.
A person at the house was arrested by police. The alleged hit-and-run driver was identified as Susan Chenot, 56 years old. Chenot was booked on suspicion of felony hit-and-run resulting in death, vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence, and possession of a controlled substance.
Investigators are continuing their work on gathering evidence regarding the incident.
