Big Rig Hits Pedestrians in Fresno, Killing a Woman and Injuring a Man
FRESNO, CA (September 6, 2018) – A big rig hit two pedestrians who were crossing a road in Fresno early Wednesday morning, killing a woman and injuring a man.
The accident occurred on the outskirts to the northwest of Fresno, according to California Highway Patrol. The time was roughly a little after 6:00 a.m.
The scene of the accident was west of Highway 99, where Shaw Avenue and Garfield Avenue intersect. A man and a woman were walking across Shaw Avenue, Sergeant Matt Zulim said, when a big rig—described as a tractor-trailer—that had been traveling westbound struck them. The road was dark, according to the report.
Responders found the victims had both been injured. The woman was fatally injured and she died at the accident scene. The man suffered injuries that were described as major. Responders took him to the hospital.
Investigators with the California Highway Patrol interviewed the truck driver. The identities of the victims, and of the driver, have not yet been reported.
