Four-Vehicle Crash On Highway 99 in Elk Grove Blocks Morning Traffic

Just before 8:50 a.m., four vehicles—which included two big rigs, a Caltrans truck, and a passenger car—collided on northbound Highway 99 in Elk Grove. As reported by CBS Sacramento, the September 29, 2011 chain-reaction crash blocked all northbound lanes for hours. It took until almost noon before all lanes were reopened.
According to CBS’s report, no one was injured. As a result of the accident, one of the big rigs jackknifed and spilled the load it was carrying. The load was a sticky substance that’s applied as a pretreatment before asphalt is laid, California Highway Patrol stated in the news story.
CHP directed northbound traffic off the highway at Elk Grove Boulevard, close to where the accident occurred. Before all the lanes on the highway were cleared, traffic was back up for miles.
The Caltrans truck, which is a Ford F-150, had heavy damage to the front end. A Scion was also involved in the accident.
