When lives are taken away in a wrongful death accident, many families grieve. Comprehending the situation may be difficult and hard to do. Sometimes, there is just no reason or explanation on why a life would be taken away so suddenly and instantly. What is even more tragic is when there are multiple people involved in the car accident.
On Tuesday, August 28, two children and two adults were killed in a car collision. While driving on Route 78 in San Diego County, a minivan carrying six kids with two adults collided with another sedan. The incident happened around 3:15 p.m. The driver of the Honda Odyssey minivan was a 33-year old female from San Diego. The other individual in the passenger seat was a 67-year old female. There were six kids in the vehicle, the ages ranging from 3 to 13.
The group was heading east on Route 78 when they reached a highway intersection which crossed with Route 79. It was then that the Honda Odyssey collided head on with a 2010 Pontiac Vibe. The Pontiac vehicle was driven by a male driver who was from Santa Ana.
Both drivers were killed in the collision impact. Two of the children in the minivan also were killed; one was an eight-year old girl and the other a nine-year old girl. The two girls were sitting at the back of the minivan. All four victims died on the scene. The rest of the children were sent to the hospital for the personal injury they have received. One six-year old girl suffered from severe injuries and was hospitalized. She was not properly buckled when the incident occurred which contributed to her serious condition. A three-year old boy, eight-year old boy, and 13-year old girl attained minor to moderate injuries from the accident.
The 67-year old female passenger in the front of the minivan was also taken to a hospital by ambulance for serious injuries. She was the vehicle’s registered owner. All the injured victims were rushed to the emergency room via ground ambulance.
The eastbound and westbound highways were closed about two miles down for several hours. Traffic was stopped as investigators looked over the scene. So far, no names of the victims have been released to the public. The relationship between the children and driver has not been made known.
Imagine driving down a long stretch of highway in a rural part of the county and suddenly being met with another vehicle. The fear must have been astounding between the two drivers.
