Driver Suspected of DUI Smashes into Vehicles on 405 Freeway in Fountain Valley; Three People Injured
FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA (September 27, 2019) – A driver who is suspected of DUI crashed into vehicles on the 405 Freeway in Fountain Valley early in the morning on Friday, injuring three. The September 27 incident occurred in the freeway’s southbound lanes, close to Bushard Street.
The time was roughly a little before 3:00 a.m.
Reports say two vehicles—described as a Prius and a truck—had been heading south on the freeway. Another vehicle—described as a Chrysler—came up on the two vehicles from behind, going at a fast speed, according to Duane Graham. Graham is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
The Prius and the truck were hit by the Chrysler. The Prius swerved to the left, and smashed into a patrol vehicle that had been stopped with warning lights illuminated. Officers in the patrol vehicle had been there to assist with a road closure in the freeway’s lanes.
Two officers were hurt, with one suffering injuries that were described as major, and the other suffering injuries that were described as moderate. The identities of the officers have not been reported.
The person who had been driving the Prius, identified only as a woman, was also injured. The types of injuries she suffered are not known, nor is her current condition. Her identity, including name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
It is not known from reports if anyone who had been in the truck was injured. The identity of the driver has not been reported.
Graham said the person who had been driving the Chrysler was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The suspect’s name, age, and city of residence has not been reported. It is not known if the suspect driver was injured.
Investigators are collecting information regarding the incident.
