3 Teens Die in Police Chase Crash near Fontana
Fontana, CA (February 7, 2024) – A police chase turned tragic near Valley Boulevard and Cypress Avenue, resulting in the loss of three young lives, including Robert Rias and two other teenagers. The fatal accident, which occurred around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, has left the community reeling.
Fontana Police Department authorities disclosed that the chain of events began when an officer spotted a white Nissan Sentra committing a vehicle code violation. Attempting to initiate a routine traffic stop, the officer signaled for the driver to pull over.
3 Teens In A Nissan Die Trying To Evade Law Enforcement
However, instead of complying, the driver of the Nissan chose to evade law enforcement, sparking a brief but high-speed pursuit. The pursuit escalated with speeds exceeding 100 mph until the Nissan lost control and collided with a police vehicle responding to the chase.
Emergency responders, including paramedics, rushed to the scene and discovered four occupants within the Nissan, tragically including 15-year-old Robert Rias and 14-year-old Domonic Adams Jr., both of whom succumbed to their injuries at the scene.
15 Year Old Omar Pitts Died Later At The Hospital
Additionally, 15-year-old Omar Pitts was assessed by paramedics and transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Presently, the driver of the Nissan, who remains unidentified, is hospitalized, along with two police officers who sustained serious injuries during the collision.
The San Bernardino Sheriff Major Accident Investigation Team has assumed responsibility for investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, shedding light on the events leading up to this devastating loss of life.
