Barstow Firefighter Working Crash on I-15 is Struck and Critically Injured
BARSTOW, CA (December 6, 2021) – Early in the morning on Sunday in Barstow, a firefighter who was working the scene of a crash on I-15 was struck and critically injured. The December 5 crash occurred in an area between the Highway 58 exit and the L Street exit.
The time was roughly 3:26 a.m., the California Highway Patrol said.
Authorities said the firefighter had been working at the scene of a crash on the northbound side of the freeway. The details of the initial crash have not been reported.
Reports said responders were helping patients at the crash site. A vehicle–which has not been described–that was traveling on the roadway, struck the firefighter at the scene.
The victim suffered injuries that were described as major. He was given medical attention at the crash site, and airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center.
His condition was described as critical. His identity has not been reported.
The identity of the driver who is suspected of hitting the firefighter has also not been reported.
Investigators are working on the details of the initial crash, and the crash that injured the firefighters.
