A fatal hit and run occurred Tuesday night. A Modesto man chased down the driver. The driver of a black sport utility left the scene after hitting a motorcycle at Haddon and El Vista Avenues.
Irvin Tefertiller, 51, driver of the motorcycle, died at the hospital. The driver of the SUV, Jennifer Cowgill, 23, was arrested.
Cowgill cut off Tefertiller as she turned in front of him in an attempted left turn. The SUV dragged the motorcycle about 100 feet. Tefertiller was thrown off of his motorcycle.
Justin Mingham, 28, who witnessed the accident and chased down the driver asked his wife to call 911.
Cowgill was charged in 2006 with driving under the influence and reckless driving.
Tefertiller was described as a “strong Christian man” and the family rock. He was a retired roofer; the father of five children.
He was described as a Bible reader. It is said that he attended church regularly and counseled his family during difficult times.
