Motorcyclist Fleeing Traffic Stop on I-15 Near Fallbrook Crashes into Vehicle and Dies
HIDDEN MEADOWS, CA (February 24, 2021) – Early in the afternoon on Monday, a motorcyclist crashed into a vehicle after fleeing from an officer on I-15, and was killed. The February 22 incident occurred in Hidden Meadows, close to Fallbrook.
The time was roughly 1:00 p.m., California Highway Patrol said.
Reports say people had witnessed the motorcyclist racing against a car–which has not been described–in the northbound lanes of the freeway. The rider did not comply with a California Highway Patrol officer who attempted to make a traffic stop, reports say, in the area of Deer Springs Road.
The motorcyclist was reported to have fled from the officer at a fast speed, and the officer pursued.
The rider smashed into the rear end of a vehicle–described as a Toyota Camry–which had been traveling on the freeway. The motorcycle also hit the guardrail in the center median, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Responders transported the rider to Palomar Medical Center. He was pronounced deceased in the hospital. His identity has not been reported.
No details have been reported on the occupant or occupants of the Toyota Camry that was struck. It is not known if anyone was injured in the vehicle. The identity of the driver has not been reported.
The identity of the driver of the vehicle that was alleged to have been racing the motorcyclist has also not been reported.
Investigators are continuing to work on the incident.
