Thirteen-year-old Driver Hits and Kills Two Men in Escondido
ESCONDIDO, CA (February 15, 2021) – Late at night on Friday, a thirteen-year-old girl who drove her mother’s car without permission, struck and killed two men. The February 12 incident was captured on video, according to reports.
Reports say at roughly 11:15 p.m., a police officer had come up to the vehicle the girl was driving–unaware she was a minor child–and attempted to talk to her. Reports say the girl drove away.
The vehicle went out of the girl’s control after she tried to make a turn to the left. She crashed into bushes near North Ash Street and Mission Avenue, close to a transfer facility for SDG&E., according to Escondido Police.
Two people, who were sleeping in the bushes, were hit.
Responders arrived and pronounced one of the victims deceased at the crash site. They transported the other victim to the hospital. The victim died in the hospital.
The two victims were identified only as men. Their names and ages have not been reported. Reports say authorities believe they may have been homeless.
Surveillance video from a doorbell camera recorded the crash.
The driver was identified as a resident of Vista, 13 years old. A passenger in the vehicle was also identified as a girl, 13 years old.
Officers arrested the two minors and released them to their parents, reports say. Investigators are continuing to work on the incident.
