Multi-vehicle Crash on I-15 Near State Route 78 in Escondido Causes Injuries
ESCONDIDO, CA (December 24, 2019) – A multi-vehicle collision on Monday morning on I-15 in Escondido caused serious injuries. The December 23 incident occurred in the northbound lanes, close to State Route 78.
The time was roughly 8:05 a.m., according to Mark Latulippe. Latulippe is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say a vehicle—described as a Ford Ranger—went out of the driver’s control and spun on the road. It swerved across lanes of the freeway. A big rig, which had been oncoming, hit the pickup truck. A second vehicle—described as a Toyota 4Runner, then struck the pickup truck.
Responders arrived and transported the driver of the pickup truck to Palomar Hospital. The victim suffered injuries that were described as major. Her current condition is not known. She was identified only as a resident of Vista, 29 years old. Her name has not been reported.
The person who had been driving the big rig was identified as a resident of Murrieta, 50 years old. His name has not been reported. According to Latulippe, the truck driver was not hurt in the incident.
The person who had been driving the Toyota was identified as a resident of Santee, 19 years old. She was not hurt in the crash, according to reports.
Investigators are working to understand the factors that contributed to the incident. Reports say the roads had been wet due to rain. The investigation is continuing.
