Man Killed by Hit-and-run Driver While Cycling In Escondido
ESCONDIDO, CA (November 26, 2019) – Kevin Lentz was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver while he was cycling in Escondido on Saturday. The November 22 incident occurred on La Honda Road, near El Norte Parkway and to the north of it.
The time was roughly 12:00 p.m., the Escondido Police Department said.
Reports say Lentz had been out with a group cycling when a vehicle, which had been traveling on the wrong side according to people who witnessed the incident, struck him head on. The driver did not stop to help Lentz, but fled the scene.
The impact threw Lentz from his bicycle. He died at the incident site. Lentz was 36 years old and a resident of Vista.
Some time later, officers located the vehicle that is suspected of striking Lentz within a half mile of the incident site. The vehicle—described as a Toyota sedan, dark in color—had been abandoned on Aster Street in the 600 block. It was heavily damaged in the front.
Investigators are searching for the suspected hit-and-run driver. They are continuing to collect details, information, and evidence regarding the incident.
