Men Identified as Victim Killed in Escondido Crash on El Norte Parkway
ESCONDIDO, CA (December 13, 2019) – Joseph Lee Spear was identified as the victim killed in a crash in Escondido on Monday. The December 9 incident occurred on El Norte Parkway near Fig Street and to the west of it.
The time was roughly 7:50 p.m., according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office and Escondido Police.
Reports say Spear had been traveling as a passenger in a Corvette that was going at a fast speed and heading west. For reasons that are not known, the vehicle went out of the driver’s control and off the road. It hit a tree and a fire hydrant.
Responders arrived and transported the driver and Spear to Palomar Medical Center. Spear was pronounced deceased in the hospital. He was 42 years old, and a resident of Montana.
The driver suffered injuries that were described as not life threatening. His current condition is not known. He was identified as 29 years old. His name and city of residence have not been reported.
Investigators are continuing their efforts to understand to circumstances related to the crash.
