El Cajon Man Hit and Killed by Trolley

A 48-year-old El Cajon man was hit and killed by a trolley yesterday afternoon. As reported by CBS 8 San Diego, and according to El Cajon police and the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, Andre Duff Zollicoffer stepped off a platform at a transit depot on North Marshall Avenue in the 700 block a little before 2:30 p.m. on September 28, 2011. At the time, a southbound trolley was approaching. El Cajon police Lt. Frank La Haye stated in the news story that the driver of the trolley quickly tried to stop by hitting the emergency brake and activating the emergency horn.
La Haye stated that Zollicoffer attempted to climb back on the platform, but he didn’t avoid being hit. The El Cajon man died at scene.
Light-rail service between Gillespie Field airport and Main Street in El Cajon was suspended for roughly two hours, CBS reports.
The cause of the man’s death is being investigated.
