Tow Truck, Police Vehicle, Car, and SUV Collide in El Cajon on I-8, Causing Injuries
EL CAJON, CA (August 19, 2020) – Early in the morning on Tuesday in El Cajon, four vehicles collided on I-8, causing injuries. The August 18 incident occurred on the westbound side of the freeway, near Mollison Avenue and to the west of it.
The time was roughly 7:55 a.m., according to Travis Garrow. Garrow is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
The incident began, reports say, when a Hino tow truck driver came upon slowed traffic on the freeway, and the truck struck the rear-end of a vehicle–described as a Mazda 6 sedan.
The force of the crash shoved the Mazda to strike the rear end of a vehicle–described as a Lexus RX 350 SUV. The Mazda also struck an El Cajon Police vehicle, described as a Ford Explorer.
Responders arrived and transported the driver of the Mazda to Sharp Memorial Hospital. The driver suffered injuries that were described as minor. The driver was identified only as a resident of El Cajon, 55 years old. His name has not been reported.
Reports say the driver of the Lexus was not hurt in the crash. He was identified only as a resident of El Cajon, 78 years old. His name has not been reported.
The officer in the El Cajon Police Department vehicle was also not hurt in the crash, according to reports. The officer was identified only as having worked for the department for a year and a half. The officer’s name, age, and gender have not been reported.
The tow truck driver was not hurt in the crash. He was identified as a resident of Chula Vista, 47 years old. His name has not been reported.
Investigators are working on the details of the crash.
