Semi-truck Breaks Fire Hydrant, Knocks Down Utility Pole in El Cajon
EL CAJON, CA (January 23, 2020) – Early in the morning on Thursday in El Cajon, a semi truck broke off a fire hydrant and knocked down a utility pole and power lines. The January 23 incident occurred on Vernon Way close to Cuyamaca Street, and near Fletcher Parkway and to the north of it.
The time was roughly 6:00 a.m.
Reports say the truck may have cut a corner, which broke off the fire hydrant and knocked the power pole. According to reports, power lines came down onto the roadway and sidewalk.
Responders arrived and crews from San Diego Gas & Electric worked at the scene. The utility said over 500 customers were without power when the crash occurred.
The identity of the person driving the truck has not been reported, including name, age, gender, and city of residence. It is not known if the driver, or anyone else, was hurt in the incident.
Investigators are working on collecting information regarding the crash.
