Person Walking on State Route 67 in El Cajon Struck and Killed
EL CAJON, CA (June 11, 2019) – A person who walked onto State Route 67 was struck and killed in El Cajon early in the morning on Sunday. The June 9 incident occurred close to the interchange for I-8.
The time was roughly 3:37 a.m., according to Jeff Christy. Christy is an officer with the California Highway Patrol.
Reports say a the pedestrian, who was pushing a shopping cart, stepped into the lanes of the highway that head south, walking into the path of a vehicle. The person driving the vehicle—described as a pickup truck—was not able to miss striking the pedestrian, Christy said. The driver hit the person and the shopping cart.
Respondents arrived and pronounced the victim deceased at the accident site. The victim was identified only as a transient. The name, age, and gender of the victim was not been reported.
Th person who had been driving the truck—identified as a resident of El Cajon 27 years old—remained at the accident site. The driver’s name and gender have not been reported. According to authorities, the driver cooperated with the investigation.
Investigators are examining the details of the incident to understand the circumstances.
