Edward Corral Known As ‘Governor of Long Beach’ Killed In Hit and Run Accident
Long Beach, CA (April 21, 2023) – Edward Corral died in the hospital while being treated for injuries sustained in a hit-and-run incident in North Long Beach about four days prior, police officials announced Wednesday morning.
Corral Was Immediately Transported To A Long Beach Memorial Hospital
According to the LBPD, the collision happened on April 14 around 9:15 p.m. in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Market Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Corral in the center median of Atlantic Avenue.
Paramedics transported Corral to Long Beach Memorial Hospital to treat his injuries, but just days later he was pronounced dead according to LBPD detectives who said they were notified of his passing on Tuesday. Corral had no identification with him when the incident occurred.
LBPD Withheld the Man’s Identity Pending Notification of His Family.
Preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that the Corral was crossing the street outside of a crosswalk when the driver struck him, according to detectives. The driver did not remain at the scene following the collision and officers are still searching for them.

Who Was Edward Corral “The Governor of Long Beach”?
Last week, Edward Corral, also known as Tito or Chico and famously referred to as the “Governor of Long Beach,” lost his life in a hit-and-run accident while he was walking in his neighborhood. He was well-known by many people prior to his passing.
Upon hearing about the extent of their brother’s popularity, Corral’s sisters were taken aback. In return for his assistance, certain shops would offer Corral complimentary food, while a flower shop gave him flowers at no charge so that he could take them to his daughter’s resting place.
According to Cruz, Corral was disabled and did not hold a job. He would spend his days walking along Atlantic Street, which he considered “his street.” It was later discovered that many of the small business owners in the area were familiar with him and that he would occasionally lend them a helping hand.
Despite the fact that Corral’s mother’s house was just three blocks away from the location where the hit-and-run occurred, the family was not informed of the incident until much later. Corral’s friends informed his wife, Similina Alaimalo, of his passing, and she in turn contacted his sisters.
Edward is survived by his wife, Similina Alaimalo, and five children named Max, Zach, Channel, Rocky, and Charlie.
