Desert Hot Springs Driver Trying to Go Around School Bus Hits and Kills 1 Child, Injures 3
DESERT HOT SPRINGS, CA (December 10, 2021) – Late in the afternoon on Thursday in Desert Hot Springs, a driver who was trying to go around a school bus struck and killed one child and injured three others. The December 9 crash occurred on Corkill Road in the 17500 block.
The time was roughly 4:00 p.m., the Riverside County Fire Department said.
Reports say that according to the California Highway Patrol, a vehicle–described as a Cadillac, white in color–struck the rear of a school bus. The person behind the wheel of the Cadillac then tried to drive around the school bus, and struck four children.
Responders arrived to help, but one child died at the crash site. The identity of the child, and the child’s family, has not been reported.
Three other children were hurt in the crash. The types of injuries they suffered, and their current condition, are not known. The children’s ages have not been reported.
The identity of the driver involved in the crash, including name, age, gender, and city of residence, has not been reported.
Investigators are in the process of collecting information about the crash to understand the incident.
