Driver Killed may have Shot Himself in Crash that Injured Five in El Monte, CA
EL MONTE, CA (September 21, 2021) – Early in the evening on Monday in El Monte, a driver may have shot and killed himself before crashing into another vehicle and injuring five. The September 20 incident occurred on Mountain View Road in the 2600 block, in an area between Peck Road and Valley Boulevard.
The time was roughly 7:35 p.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.
A man driving a vehicle–which has not been described–may have shot himself in the head before striking a vehicle. Officers from the El Monte Police Department arrived on scene and found a man who had been the driver of one of the vehicles with a gunshot wound to his head.
Reports say officers also found a gun in the man’s vehicle. Authorities believe the man shot himself, reports say. The identity of the man who died, including his name, age, and city of residence, has not been reported.
The man’s vehicle collided with another vehicle–which has also not been described.
Inside the vehicle were four people, members of a family, described as a pregnant woman and two children; none of their ages have been reported.
Responders transported them to a hospital. The types of injuries they suffered have not been reported, nor have their names and cities of residence.
According to reports, one passenger who had been traveling in the vehicle with the pregnant woman jumped from the vehicle before the collision. Responders also transported her to the hospital.
Her injuries have not been described, and her identity has not been reported.
Investigators are continuing to work on the incident.
