Driver Fleeing Santa Ana Police Crashes into Patrol Vehicle; Three Injured

SANTA ANA, CA (August 10, 2020) – A driver who was fleeing from police pursuit on Thursday night crashed in Santa Ana, injuring three people. The August 6 incident occurred near the intersection of Euclid Avenue and McFadden Avenue.

At roughly 10:35 p.m., according to Anthony Bertagna–who is a corporal–officers attempted to pull a driver over in the vicinity of 300 North Harbor Boulevard. The driver would not stop, and officers began pursuing.

The suspect vehicle was eastbound on McFadden and, according to reports, it went into the intersection with Euclid when the light was red. The suspect vehicle struck a vehicle–described only as a sedan.

The sedan went out of the driver’s control, and it struck a police vehicle that was involved in the pursuit.

Responders arrived and transported an officer who was injured to the hospital. The types of injuries the officer suffered have not been reported. The identity of the officer has also not been reported.

Responders also transported the suspect driver to the hospital. The injuries he suffered have not been reported.

He was identified as Simon Bradley Sulusi, 35 years old and a resident of Long Beach. He was arrested on suspicion of felony evading, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and felony driving under the influence.

A person who had been traveling in the sedan as a passenger was reported injured, but not transported to a hospital. The identity of the person has not been reported. The identity of the person who had been driving the sedan has also not been reported.

Investigators are working on collecting information and details related to the crash.
