Woman Fleeing Pursuit by Deputies with 9-year-old is Arrested in Diamond Bar
DIAMOND BAR, CA (March 12, 2021) – A driver who was fleeing pursuit by deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday with her 9 year old in the vehicle was arrested in Diamond Bar. The March 9 pursuit began in an area close to the sheriff’s station near the city of Walnut and Diamond Bar.
The suspect was involved in an alleged hit-and-run collision close to the Sheriff’s Station in Walnut-Diamond Bar, located at 21695 Valley Boulevard in Walnut, reports say. According to reports, the suspect is alleged to have rear-ended another vehicle repeatedly and on purpose, according to the other driver, who has not been identified.
When deputies tried to contact the suspect driver, she fled, according to reports, and the chase ensued.
The pursuit–which at times occurred at high speeds–traveled into the Inland Empire before returning to Diamond Bar. During the chase, the suspect is alleged to have hit a number of vehicles and to have traveled in the wrong direction in some areas.
The suspect’s vehicle became disabled, reports say, following a number of collisions, and a lengthy stand-off occurred. Reports say deputies were surprised to see a child come out of the vehicle after tear gas was used.
The suspect driver was arrested on suspicion of a felony count of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death, assault with a deadly weapon, fleeing a pursuing peace officer’s motor vehicle while driving recklessly, and seven counts of misdemeanor hit-and-run resulting in property damage, reports say.
The suspect was identified as Margaret Ann Hassan, 30 years old. She had been traveling with her 9-year-old daughter when the incident occurred, according to reports.
The other vehicles involved in the collisions have not all been described, nor the drivers all been identified. It is not known if there were injuries to the people involved in the incident.
The investigation is continuing.
