Desert Center, CA – Rachel Lopez Dies in Crash Involving Overturned Vehicle on 10 Freeway

DESERT CENTER, CA (July 15, 2018) – Rachel Lopez died Sunday morning in a rollover crash on the 10 Freeway in Desert Center. The accident occurred close to Rice Road at roughly 11:00 a.m.
The accident happened in the eastbound lanes of the freeway.
Rachel Lopez was identified by California Highway Patrol as being 40 years old. According to the report, her car—a 2003 Toyota Prius—traveled off the freeway on the left side. It then rolled over in the open center divider, which is unpaved earth.
The report indicates that authorities do not yet know what caused the vehicle to roll over.
Responders took Lopez by airlift to Indio’s John F. Kennedy Memorial Hospital. She died from her injuries, which were severe.
Two other people in the car with her, who were traveling as passengers, were also injured. They were described as a man 48 years old, and a boy 15 years old.
Responders took the injured passengers to the hospital. Their injuries were described as moderate, and minor.
Investigators are looking into the details of the crash to determine what caused it.
