Man and Woman Identified as Victims Killed in Head-on Crash on Hwy 166 in Cuyama

CUYAMA, CA (April 9, 2019) – Ashley Nicole Castillo and Brian Scott Adams were identified as the two people who were killed in a head-on crash Saturday afternoon in Cuyama. The April 6 accident occurred on Highway 166 East, close to Rock Front Ranch.

The time was roughly 12:34 p.m.

Reports say that Castillo and Adams had been traveling in a Honda Accord. Their vehicle collided with another vehicle, which has not been described.

Castillo was 29 years old, and a resident of Bakersfield. Adams was 29 years old and a resident of Bakersfield, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office said.

The occupants of the other vehicle were identified as three women, all in their early twenties. The women are students at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo. California Highway Patrol says the three women suffered injuries that ranged from minor to major. One of the victims was transported by airlift to a hospital. Respondents transported the other victims by ground.

The identities of the three women, including their names and cities of residence, have not been reported. The types of injuries they suffered are not known, nor their current condition.

The vehicles involved in the crash had major damage. The collision may have occurred when the driver of one of the vehicles moved into the lane of oncoming traffic to pass a vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol. Investigators are continuing their examination of the details and evidence to understand the crash’s origin.
