Car Gets Overturned On 5 Freeway Killing USMC Lance Corporal Near Base
San Diego County, CA (June 15, 2024) – USMC Lance Corporal Cristian Banuelos tragically lost his life in a single-car accident on the 5 Freeway near Las Pulgas Road early Saturday morning.
The California Highway Patrol reported that the fatal crash occurred around 5:45 a.m. Cristian Banuelos was driving a northbound BMW 440i when, for unknown reasons, he lost control of the vehicle. The BMW swerved left, struck the center guardrail, overturned, and collided with an emergency call box and a barbed wire fence.
Cristian Banuelos Was Pronounced Dead At The Scene of The Crash
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced Cristian Banuelos, a resident of Mount Vernon, Washington, dead. A 21-year-old male passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to a trauma center, while a 19-year-old female passenger suffered minor injuries.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the accident and are investigating the possibility of DUI as a factor. The incident occurred near the northern San Diego County military base, adding to the tragic loss for the military community.
