One man is dead after a violent car crash happened early Thursday morning according to local authorities. The crash left 70-year-old Joong Kim of Bell Canyon dead.
The crash occurred at 3:14 a.m. on the southbound 101 Freeway near Vineland Ave. and involved Kim’s 2008 Lexus sedan and a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer had slowed for another collision south of Vineland, said Leland Tang, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol.
“The driver of the Lexus allowed his vehicle to collide with the rear of the tractor’s rear trailer,” Tang said in an interview with the Los Angeles Daily News. “The Lexus was lodged under the rear cargo door of the trailer.”
The driver of the tractor trailer, an unnamed 50-year-old man from Oxnard, was not injured.
Shortly after the accident, the Los Angeles City ire and Rescue responded to dislodge the vehicle and extricate the driver from the vehicle.
The accident closed the 101 eastbound to the Hollywood Freeway southbound transition. All lanes reopened at 6:38 a.m., according to Tang.
