Country music singer Emmylou Harris has been charged with hit-and-run. Emmylou is known for winning an amazing 12 Grammys, along with other awards, throughout her career. She is not only a solo artist but is known for being a backup vocalist. Harris, from Birmingham Alabama, has released several chart-topping albums and singles over the course of her career. She has worked with large names such as John Denver, Linda Ronstadt, Roy Orbison, Willie Nelson and Neil Young, to name a few.

The reason Emmylou is being investigated is because she allegedly hit another vehicle. Harris was driving a rental car on the 405 freeway. The accident happened last year when she was headed to Los Angeles in October of 2012. A 65 year old is claiming that Emmylou hit her vehicle and fled. This past Wednesday, the star was charged with the misdemeanor by the L.A. County District Attorney, according to TMZ.

If she is convicted for these charges, Harris could face up to six months in jail. The 65 year-old victim made the report at the time of the accident. The other driver is claiming that Harris drove off after hitting her car on October 1st. According to the incident report, the accident occurred at approximately 10 pm  But Harris’s representatives have said that the Grammy-award winning star had not realized that she actually made contact with the other person’s vehicle.

“It is a garden-variety accident that happens every day on the 405,” her rep told TMZ. According to the TMZ website, Harris’s lawyer entered a ‘not guilty’ plea on the singer’s behalf. The plea was entered this past Wednesday.

Hit and run accidents happen every day, unfortunately. California hit-and-run violations are considered a felony and convictions can mean a sentence to a state prison or county jail for up to one year and fines up to $10,000 or both. If you or a loved one have been involved in a hit and run accident you must seek attorney to advise you.
