Driver Killed in Collision Between Sewage Truck and SUV in Costa Mesa
COSTA MESA, CA (September 23, 2024) – A fatal crash involving a sewage vacuum tanker truck and an SUV occurred at the intersection of Fairview Road and Sunflower Avenue on Monday morning, leaving one driver dead. The accident took place at approximately 8:40 a.m., according to Costa Mesa Police.
Authorities reported that the driver of the sewage truck ran a red light at the intersection for reasons still under investigation. As a result, a small SUV collided with the side of the tanker, causing the truck to overturn onto its side.
Sewage Was Scattered Everywhere Making It Necessary For a HazMat Team To Clean Up The Mess
The impact scattered debris across the roadway, prompting the response of a HazMat team to address the sewage spill from the tanker.
Tragically, the driver of the sewage truck sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The area was closed off by police following the crash, as they continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the accident. Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the collision.
