This past Wednesday the unfortunate announcement was made that a 32 year-old veteran of the Costa Mesa Police Department died. His death involved a solo-car accident. The accident happened around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday.  A Honda Accord collided onto a support column. It was located under the Costa Mesa Freeway, according to the police department.

Det. Michael Delgadillo was the only person in the vehicle. He was immediately taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana. He was pronounced dead the next day.

Delgadillo was well rounded and trained with the Costa Mesa Police Department. He was a field training officer, a canine officer, and an investigator in the department’s gang unit. His most recent assignment was the position of a detective in the Investigative Service Bureau. 4

The department releases a statement saying, “Mike is described as a loyal, dedicated, hardworking employee. Mike is probably best known for his charismatic personality and his strong desire to train and mentor others by imparting his vast knowledge and many years of experience to the younger and less experienced. Mike will be missed dearly by all.”

The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Costa Mesa and Newport Beach police departments.
