Woman Killed in Fiery Collision on 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa
COSTA MESA, CA (November 20, 2018) – A collision on the 55 Freeway in Costa Mesa late Sunday night killed a woman. The November 18 accident occurred on the northbound side of the freeway, to the north of Mesa Drive, the California Highway Patrol says.
The time was roughly 11:16 p.m.
According to reports, a truck, described as a Dodge Dakota, struck the rear end of a car. The impact from the crash caused the car, described as a Toyota Corolla, to erupt in flames.
Responders from the fire department extinguished the flames. The woman who had been driving the car was pronounced deceased at the accident scene.
Officers arrested the driver—identified as Kevin Michael Bash, a 26-year-old resident of Whittier—on suspicion of driving under the influence.
