Collision between Motorcycle and Big Rig on 405 Freeway in Costa Mesa Kills Rider
COSTA MESA, CA (November 5, 2018) – A collision between a motorcycle and a big rig in the morning on Friday killed a rider on the 405 Freeway in Costa Mesa. The November 2 accident occurred in the northbound lanes, near the off-ramp for Harbor Boulevard.
The time was roughly a bit after 5: 30 a.m.
According to reports, the motorcyclist—identified as a 33-year-old man who was a resident of Stanton—had been riding on the freeway when his motorcycle hit the back end of a big rig. The impact from the crash threw the rider.
A vehicle—described as a Hyundai Elantra—that had been behind the motorcycle on the freeway hit the rider, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Chris Coates, who is a spokesperson with Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue, said the rider was pronounced deceased when paramedics arrived on scene.
No other details have yet been reported. Investigators are looking into the information regarding the crash to determine what caused it.
